CL RECOMMENDS
CRITIC’S PICK: Scott H. Biram, Eddie’s Attic —Texas born and bred Biram titled his 2004 album Dirty Old One Man Band which perfectly describes his raw, roaring bluesy/country, swamp rock. His growl is close to that of Howlin’ Wolf but musically he’s more stripped down and earthy. There’s an aggressive, punk attitude to his sound whether he’s covering the folk/blues classic “Death Don’t Have No Mercy” with reserved grace or grinding out a gruff “Sinner’s Dinner,” both on the recently released The One and Only Scott H. Biram album which he’ll be featuring tonight. His longtime label is Bloodshot whose motto used to be “insurgent country,” also a realistic depiction of Biram’s uninhibited approach. — Hal Horowitz
