CRITIC’S PICK: Ben Sollee, Eddie’s Attic —There just aren’t enough cello-playing frontmen/singer/songwriters around. So Ben Sollee has that genre pretty much locked down. Regardless, his art-folk, similar to that of Andrew Bird or the later recordings of Paul Simon, is hypnotic and riveting. His newest release, just out August 16, is titled Long Haul, referring to his diagnosis of long COVID which sidelined him from touring for a few years. He’s back scoring films and podcast series’ and on the road playing his uniquely nuanced, flowing music that sounds like nothing else. — Hal Horowitz
