One of Georgia’s largest foreign investors is about to spend another $473 million to add a semiconductor parts operation in the state. South Korea’s SKC conglomerate has already invested $2.6 billion to make batteries for electric vehicles in Jackson County and plans to build a second plant at the existing complex to meet higher demand. The company also wants to hire 400 high-tech employees in Newton County to produce glass-based substrates for semiconductors. Dr. Sung Jin Kim, a former Georgia Tech research professor who is now SKC’s director of new business development, said, “Georgia will be a basecamp for SKC’s AI and high-speed data center semiconductor applications.” globalatlanta.com
