Year after year, the ATLANTA PRIDE FESTIVAL demonstrates how integral the gay and lesbian community is to Atlanta with a parade, performances and events featuring gay and nongay celebrities and artists alike. The 2007 event, titled “Our Rights, Your Rights, Human Rights,” occurs Fri.-Sun., JUNE 22-24, at Piedmont Park and includes a Saturday evening swimwear fashion show hosted by “The Apprentice” reality show star Carey Sherrell; a Sunday afternoon parade; a marketplace with dozens of vendors; and musical performances by folk rockers Morgan Rowe and Antigone Rising, Deborah Gibson, Three 5 Human and more. FRIDAY
In Piedmont Park’s pool house, Leslie Jordan, Lady Chablis and Charlie Brown host screenings of Sordid Lives and Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil at 6 p.m., and the YouthPride Prom invites those under 24 to get down at 8 p.m.
SATURDAY
The solo, transsexual spoken-word artist Athens Boys Choir delivers his nontraditional “performance poetry” at 1:15 p.m.
Swimwear from Blue Motion Squared, “The Apprentice” star Carey Sherrell’s clothing line, hits the runway at 6:15 p.m.
The all-female, all-rockin’ band Antigone Rising performs at 9:35 p.m.
SUNDAY
The Pride Parade kicks off at 1 p.m. at the Civic Center MARTA Station and travels down Peachtree and 10th streets and Piedmont Avenue.
Afternoon speakers and performers include Rep. John Lewis at 3 p.m. and singer Levi Kreis at 5:15 p.m.
Eighties teen-pop sensation and nouvelle-gay icon Deborah Gibson performs at 6:10 p.m.
The Starlight Cabaret caps off the weekend at 8:30 p.m.
